CROSSWAY is a young church in Bakersfield, CA. We have been meeting a few years and God continues to add to our new church body by bringing unbelievers into our church! All ages are welcome to come and free child care will be provided for all children 4 years old and younger (for more information regarding our meetings please go to the Meeting Info. link above).
We are thoroughly and purposefully preaching the Bible and hold the Bible as our only authority for what we believe and what we do. Because we believe that Scripture is the necessary food for the soul, our morning service is focused on looking at the Bible and explaining it so that everyone can understand what God wants them to hear.
Because we believe that friendship and community are an essential part of living the Christian life. We have integrated time for friendly conversation and encouragement during our morning service. You are welcome to visit with us during this time (Crossway Café is at 10:45 A.M.) and enjoy free coffee, doughnuts/bagels, and juice–and friendship too.
Please accept our invitation and join us as we continue this journey of grace. We want to help you to discover a relationship with God that will change your life.
Crossway Baptist Church is a group of ordinary people. We invite you to come and enjoy our family. We recognize that in God’s eyes we are all equally needing God’s kindness and grace. So we want to ask you to come. Although we are all at different places in our lives, we all need to grow spiritually. We will welcome you and desire to show you the love of Christ. We are eager to see you!
Because a “church” is a group of people joined together in their shared faith in Jesus Christ, all who want to join our church must express faith in Jesus as their Lord, Savior, and God. We also assume that as you join our family you will be expressing this faith in a life that is obedient to Scripture.
Crossway Baptist Church is a church that is thoroughly and purposefully preaching through the Bible. Because we believe that Scripture is the food that feeds our soul, our morning services are focused on looking at the Bible and explaining it so that everyone can understand what God has said in the Scripture; the Bible is relevant for us!
Worship is demonstrating God’s infinite value and glory through loving acts of service, devotion, praise, and obedience. Our services include worship through scripture reading, fellowship, preaching, giving, traditional signing, and prayer.

Worship Service (9:30)
Our worship service begins at 9:30 on Sunday morning and includes a focused time of musical worship, worship through prayer, and a meaningful study of God’s word where we look to make its significance real for our everyday lives.
We serve coffee, doughnuts, and bagels to those who come during our Café time at 9:30 a.m. on Sunday. You are invited to join us, after all—the food is on us. The series is called, “From Dust to Glory.” We will explore the glory and grace of God throughout the scriptures. DON’T MISS IT!

Crossway Baptist Church is not just any other church. We are Baptist by distinctive-we actually believe what we do is what the Bible says we ought to do. Often churches do what they do because of tradition or because it entertains people. We find both of these reasons are not sufficient. We attempt to base what we do on Scripture. Our vision to be biblical causes a difference that is noticeable in these areas:
Pastor Mark attempts to systematically teach the Scripture, exposing the meaning of the text and helping us grasp its significance for our everyday lives. You will not find motivational speeches that have nothing to do with Scripture nor will you find the messages just opinion. We try to honor God by honoring His Word. Come learn with us!
God places a high importance on having relationships that encourage people and that help each other. So at Crossway we avoid a critical spirit or a judgmental attitude. We all need help! We are simply people who need change helping others in need of change too. Come change with us.
We have conservative worship, but also maintain a fresh and vital atmosphere. Our goal is to let the words of our mouth and the meditations of our hearts be honoring to the Lord during this worship time.

Matthew 28:19 and 20 establish the purpose for which every church exists. Our purpose, or mission, can be summarized in the word “disciple.” Specifically we have expressed this as two different aspects: 1) making new disciples by sharing the news of Jesus Christ, and 2) helping disciples to grow in maturity. Helping others to be disciples and better disciples is a dynamic work of God that he does through his people. Therefore, our mission is to be a dynamic church in Bakersfield that displays the grace of God to those in our sphere of influence.
We accomplish this simple mission through several avenues.
1) We are committed to showing people the glory of Christ so that they can have a saving relationship with Christ. We do this through preaching and by having face to face moments where we personally share the message of Salvation with people.
2) We are committed to developing community—genuine friendships where we can help each other become more like Christ. We do this through small groups, bible studies, Crossway café, and other social gatherings where we meet to encourage each other and study God’s Word.
3) We are committed to worship as a community. As we try to spread the grace of God and grow in that grace we find ourselves in awe of God and our hearts naturally delight in expressing worship for his greatness and goodness. We hope that as our guest you might find our worship contagious!
Mark was born in California, but spent most of his time growing up in the Wisconsin. He has earned his Masters of Divinity and Masters of Theology degree from Detroit Baptist Theological Seminary and is currently pursuing a Doctor of Ministries degree at The Master’s Seminary. While attending seminary at Detroit, Pastor Mark served as an Associate Pastor at First Baptist Church in Capac, MI. In 2005, First Baptist of Capac commissioned Mark to come to Bakersfield to start a new church. Pastor Mark continues to serve the church with his wife, Charity, and daughters, Sydney, Addison, and Charlize.
Phil has earned his Masters of Divinity degree from Detroit Baptist Theological Seminary and serves in our church by directing music as well as serving as Pastor to our youth. God has blessed our church with this godly family. God has blessed Pastor Phil with a wife, Juliana, and their son Andrew
Why is it so important to have preaching that focuses on the truth of the word of God rather than on the audience?
While you cannot separate the two entirely, it might be best to say that a church that focuses on clearly explaining the truth of Scripture is giving the hearers what is most important rather than what is most desired!
Crossway's mission can be summarized in two sentences.
1) We want to reach those who do not know our Lord and we want to communicate God's grace to them.
2) We want to reach those who are believers and we want to encourage them to grow in God's grace.
Pastor Mark is taking the church on a tour of the Bible as we follow the history of God’s redemption of man. From Dust to Glory will survey the whole Bible, giving insight into the purpose and theme of each book! Your mind and heart will be encouraged as you recognize the glory and grace of God from creation until Christ returns.
